Who Am I?

A 3D Artist with a passion for learning new things…

Hi, my name is Tim Brakensiek (timbraktoo), and I’m a self-educated 3D technical artist and supervisor with over 16 years of visual effects and animation experience on 23 movies, 3 Disney ride films and various toy commercials. In the past, I have worked as a graphic designer, a toy designer and animator, and I specialize in creatures, including hero rigging, modeling, deformations, simulation setup, rigid destruction and shot production.

Until recently, I was the Computer Graphics Supervisor for the front of pipeline (modeling, paint, layout, animation and creature technical direction) at Industrial Light + Magic for Transformers 5. There I focused on identifying, defining and prioritizing the technical processes and workflows for an effects driven movie with a budget in the many millions of dollars.  The various images from movies on this website are assets I contributed to.

I’m currently working at Epic Games as a Product Designer, taking the skills I have learned over many years of character simulation production, working with others to help develop our next generation of artist-driven simulation and character tools for Unreal Engine!

I’m always learning new software and 3D techniques and I love to talk about computer graphics and fimmaking and all the various software and methodologies involved. For my personal development, I’m particularly interested in Unreal Engine, character simulation and Houdini simulation and how these tools can help the modern filmmaker and game developer.

It’s an exciting time as an artist to see and be part of this intersection of real time and linear content!

“It’s just you against the machine. Move with your left hand, shoot with your right, and try to stay alive as long as possible.”
ERNEST CLINE, Ready Player One
“I would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained.”
“Those are my principles, and if you don’t like them… well, I have others.”
